EICR stands for Electrical Installation Condition Report. This is a report prepared by an electrician following detailed testing and inspection of an electrical system. This is an improved report on the Periodic Inspection Report (PIR) which was phased out in 2011.
The Report is a summary of the test results, inspection results and observations on the electrical system. It provides information on the condition of the system and identifies deficiencies and provides a priority for the severity of the deficiencies.
The Report will provide information to enable the person or organisation responsible for the installation about the current condition of the electrical system. Systems will deteriorate with age and can become dangerous if they are not maintained.
The maximum number of years between reports is generally five, with an exception for owner occupied houses where this is ten years. There are notable expections with a shorter period of three years or one year .
